PESHAWAR, Dec 5,2023: In a distressing incident today, an explosion occurred near a school on Warsak Road in Peshawar, resulting in seven persons sustaining injuries.

Among the wounded are children aged between 7 and 10, with two of them reported to be in critical condition, as confirmed by the spokesperson of Lady Reading Hospital (LRH).

The injured individuals have been identified as Ahmed Jan, Ehsanullah, Javed Khan, Zahirullah, Saad Ahmed, and Yusuf Khan. LRH is actively engaged in providing medical care to those affected.

According to SP Warsak Arshad Khan, the explosion, caused by the detonation of 4 kg of explosives concealed in a cement block on the roadside, took place at 9:10 am. While the specific target remains uncertain, it has been confirmed that three children were among the injured.

The authorities have initiated a search operation in the surrounding areas, focusing on uncovering the motives behind the incident. There is also consideration of the possibility of extortion being a factor in the blast.

Expressing concern over the situation, Mayor Metropolitan Zubair Ali addressed the media, stating that the blast near the school was likely intended to disrupt law and order, raising alarm about the potential consequences on the community’s safety.
