LAHORE, Mar 22,2023 – The Punjab Assembly elections scheduled for April 30 have been postponed.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a formal order to postpone the elections and now the elections in Punjab will be held on October 8.

The spokesman said that the Election Commission has withdrawn the election schedule of the Punjab Assembly, while the President has been informed about the decision.

Earlier, in the federal cabinet meeting presided over by the Prime Minister, the letter of the Election Commission regarding the Punjab Assembly elections was considered.

According to sources, the federal cabinet approved the position of the Ministry of Finance, Defense and Interior.

The federal cabinet said that funds cannot be given for the elections in the current conditions of the country, the election commission was informed about the decision on behalf of the cabinet.

It should be remembered that the Lahore High Court had rejected the request to bind the Election Commission to conduct the Punjab Assembly elections on time as inadmissible.

A 2-member bench of the Lahore High Court pronounced the reserved verdict.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal gave the decision on the petition of a citizen Munir Ahmed.

The petitioner had pleaded that it seems that the elections will not be held, so the Election Commission should be ordered to conduct the elections.
