ISLAMABAD, April 12,2022- Election Commission of Pakistan –ECP is facing constant problems from Central and Provincial Governments in provision of required funds for upcoming General Elections and local govt elections in the provinces due to which severe difficulties are being faced and important constitutional duties of the Commission are being affected.
An important meeting was held in the Election Commission of Pakistan on April 11, under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja in which besides members of Election Commission, Secretary Election Commission and other senior officers of Election Commission participated.

It was informed in the meeting that the Election Commission is facing constant problems from Central and Provincial Governments in provision of required funds for upcoming General Elections and local govt elections in Punjab, Balochistan, Sindh and Islamabad due to which severe difficulties are being faced and important constitutional duties of the Commission are being affected.
ECP to inform Registrar of the Supreme Court
The Election Commission reacted strongly to the fact that in this way not only the constitutional and legal responsibilities of the Election Commission are being compromised but also the orders of the Supreme Court dated March 15, 2021and Mlarch 25, 2021regarding holding of local body elections in the country as per constitution obligation.
Therefore, the Election Commission decided that the Registrar of the Supreme Court should also be informed of the situation in the light of the above stated orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Because of this, the local Government Elections which have already been delayed, now there is a danger of further delay in holding them.
In addition, the Secretary Election Commission was
directed to talk to the Federal Secretary Finance and the concerned Chief Secretaries in this regard and resolve the issue at the earliest so that local govt Elections in three provinces and Islamabad can be conducted smoothly.
