KARACHI Oct 01,2021: Due to the weather emergency caused by a tropical cyclone Shaheen in the Arabian Sea, public holiday has been declared in Sindh’s capital city Karachi.
Issuing a notification on Thursday, Commissioner Karachi said that all government offices and businesses in Karachi will remain closed on Friday, October1.
“All offices, educational institutions, and businesses will remain closed except essential services, businesses and government offices engaged in rain emergency relief activities,” states the notification issued by Commissioner Karachi.
“In view of the recent weather advisories issued by Pakistan Meteorological Department and Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Sindh about the anticipated tropical cylone Shaheen, Friday, October 01, 2021 is declared to be a public holiday in Karachi division.”
Karachi University has also cancelled all the examinations scheduled to be held Friday.
Bathing in sea banned
Commissioner Karachi Naveed Ahmed Sheikh has banned bathing in sea on the beach under section 144 and a notification has been issued in this regard. The look has been added. The ban will continue till October 5, said Commissioner Karachi Naveed Sheikh. Citizens are urged to refrain from going to the beach and to abide by the ban.
The chances of heavy rains in the Sindh’s capital have decreased, the deep depression is moving away from the coastal areas of Sindh with time, says Director Meteorological Department of Pakistan.
Director Meteorological Department Sardar Sarfraz said that there may be moderate to heavy rains in some parts of the city, however, heavy rains are still expected in the coastal areas of Balochistan.
The Director Meteorological Department said that the deep depression is moving towards northwest and the possibility of rain in Sindh will be eliminated by tomorrow.
Sardar Sarfraz added that the chances of urban flooding in the city have also decreased.
According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall of 24.4 mm was recorded in Nazimabad.
The Meteorological Department said that 20 mm of rain was recorded at Faisal Base and 19 mm at PAF Masroor Base.
The Defense Housing Authority (DHA) received 17.6 mm of rainfall and Gulshan-e-Hadid 16 mm.
The Meteorological Department has recorded 12.6 mm of rainfall in North Karachi and 10.2 mm at Old Airport.
The Meteorological Department also recorded 9 mm of rain at University Road, Quaidabad and Saadi Town, 8 mm at Jinnah Terminal and 6.8 mm at Gulshan-e-Maymar.
