Court expresses strong anger over the report of Commissioner Karachi

During the hearing on the demolition of Nasla Tower in the Karachi Registry of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed on Wednesday, has expressed strong anger over the report of Commissioner Karachi and said that go and demolish Nasla Tower with all the machinery and staff of the city.

Nasla Tower is an eleventh storey building located on Shahrah-e-Faisal, Karachi.  In the encroachment case pending in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Supreme Court has ordered immediate demolition of the building.

Commissioner requests the CJP to listen to him

During the hearing, Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon told the apex court that we have launched an operation on Nasla Tower.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed asked how many buildings demolished. Tell us how much work has been done, don’t lie.

Commissioner Karachi Iqbal Memon requested the CJP to listen to him.

Justice Qazi Amin asked the commissioner, as if you are standing in your house, is this the way to talk to the court? Don’t try to be too smart.

Commissioner Karachi said that he was trying to demolish the building.

The Chief Justice asked the Commissioner Karachi to give up the effort and go straight to jail.

Commissioner Karachi said that I am trying to explain something to you.

Chief Justice of Pakistan said that we are understanding, you are not understanding, you are just passing the time.

The Chief Justice asked Advocate General Sindh regarding Commissioner Karachi, what grade of officer is he? Advocate General Sindh said that Commissioner Karachi is a Grade 21 officer.

The Chief Justice inquired whether this is the manner in which a Grade 21 officer speaks in the court. The Tijori Heights has not yet been demolished. Commissioner Karachi replied that the work of demolishing it safely was going on.

The apex court ordered that if the operation was going on, a report with photographs should be submitted by noon.

Commissioner Karachi reached Nasla Tower

On the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Commissioner Karachi, Muhammad Iqbal Memon along with other officers reached Nasla Tower to expedite the demolition work.

Commissioner Karachi was accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Revenue and DC East.

Talking to media, Commissioner Karachi, Iqbal Memon said that the work of demolition of Nasla Tower had been started but the work was halted due to lack of security measures.

Nasla Tower being demolished in the traditional way

He said that demolition work was going on the eleventh floor and the tenth floor had been demolished. Will be done soon.

Commissioner Karachi said that the work of demolition of Nusla Tower is going on from inside.

He further said that Nasla Tower would be demolished in the traditional way with the help of laborers and machine.

Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon also said that there was confusion that Nusla Tower should be demolished with controlled detonation but now the confusion is gone, now it is being demolished in the traditional way.
