Biden unveils plan for Supreme Court reform

Washington, July 30,2024: (News Agencies) — President Joe Biden has unveiled a comprehensive “Supreme Court Reform” plan aimed at curbing the influence of politics on the nation’s highest court and increasing judicial accountability.

In a notable move, the reform plan seeks to address presidential immunity and implement a series of new regulations for Supreme Court justices. Key components of the proposal include reducing the minimum age for judges to 18 years, mandating the disclosure of any gifts received by justices, and requiring them to recuse themselves from cases where they or their spouses have a financial or personal stake.

The plan also proposes a constitutional amendment to overturn a recent Supreme Court decision that upheld presidential immunity, specifically targeting the current legal protections enjoyed by former President Donald Trump, who is 81 years old.

President Biden’s reform agenda includes calls for term limits for Supreme Court justices, who are currently appointed for life. This move aims to address long-standing concerns about the lack of rotation within the judiciary.

Biden is expected to provide further details of the reform plan during a speech in Austin, Texas. The President will emphasize the need for an enforceable code of ethics for the Supreme Court, a response to a series of controversies and scandals that have highlighted the need for greater judicial oversight.

The proposed reforms represent a significant shift in the landscape of U.S. judicial governance, with the aim of enhancing transparency and reducing potential conflicts of interest within the Supreme Court.
