KARACHI, Mar 01,2022- An accused of the murder of senior Karachi journalist Athar Mateen was killed during a police operation in Qambar Shahdadkot, Sindh.
According to SSP Qambar Shahdadkot, the accused identified as Anwar Hasani Brohi, was killed during a joint operation of Qambar Shahdad Kot and Karachi police.
Ashraf, another accomplice of the accused, was arrested from Manghopir Sindh-Balochistan border on February 26.
Police officials said that a reward of Rs 2 million was fixed for the arrest of the accused Anwar.
Police said that there were 13 cases registered against the accused.
According to the police, the accused had been involved in the incident since 2014 and had been arrested three times but was released on bail each time.
The journalists of Karachi have been protesting against the killing of Athar Mateen and demanding arrest of the accused.
On Feb 18, a producer of Samaa TV Athar Mateen was killed in a firing incident on a car in North Nazimabad area of Karachi. The accused left their motorcycle and snatched another motorcycle on the other side of the road and fled.
Sindh chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and sought report.
According to police, the incident took place on the main road of North Nazimabad.
Instead of stopping the vehicle, the occupant of the car hit the motorcycle of the accused, causing them to fall. However, one of the accused fired three shots at the car with a pistol.
The accused crossed the road, snatched another motorcycle from the other side and fled.
Police reports said, in the initial investigation, the incident seems to be resistance during the robbery.
