In Indian local government a candidate only got his vote, even his family did not cast vote in his favour.

In the Indian state of Gujarat, the candidate contesting the local government elections could get only one vote which was his own vote.

Despite this defeat, the news regarding the candidate also made headlines in the international media.

According to Indian media, a dozen members of the family of the candidate named Santosh Hilpati were eligible to vote but he could get only one vote which was his own.

Santosh contested election to the post of Sarpanch of Charwala village in Vipi town of Wilsad district in the western Indian state of Gujarat.

Although he knew he would not win, he did not expect just one vote, and that was his own.

Middle-aged Santosh broke into tears at the vote counting counter. He said 12 people from his family were eligible to vote, but none of them cast their vote to him.
