KARACHI Dec 18,2021- At least 10 people were killed and several others injured when an explosion ripped through an underground sewer in Sher Shah area of Karachi, destroying a private bank building and damaging surrounding buildings on Saturday noon.
Dr Sabir Memon, head of the Trauma Center, Civil Hospital, confirmed that 10 people had died as a result of the incident.
The bodies of eight people killed in the blast and 13 injured were brought to the hospital, he said, adding that two more died during the treatment.
According to Dr Sabir Memon, the condition of the four injured is critical.
According to eyewitnesses, the blast was so powerful that a car flew away and the debris of the drain and a bank also fell far away.
According to Sher Shah Police, the incident took place near Paracha Chowk in Sher Shah.
The roof of the drain collapsed due to the explosion in the sewerage drain, as a result of which the building of a nearby private bank was completely destroyed.
Kemari District Police have denied any element of sabotage or terrorism in the incident. According to the police, the incident took place by accident.
Chief minister Sindh has sought report and ordered thorough probe into the incident. Syed Murad Ali Shah also directed the authorities to provide medical care at the hospital.

Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho has declared emergency in Trauma Center, Civil Hospital and Jinnah Hospital, to treat the injured of Sher Shah blast.
